Continuing in a similar vein as Believe, but not succumbing to re-heating yesterday’s stew, Pandelirium is yet another bull’s-eye by Col. J.D. Wilkes and his band of musicians. Once again, taking elements from various forms of American traditional music and adding a little of more modern music into the soup, Th’ Legendary Shack*Shakers make something quite unique and fresh from elements that in themselves are old, and in the process showing that with a little innovation and inspiration, one can discover a wealth of originality from what some might call genres where everything’s been done over and over again (or, like a friend of mine recently said, “Rockabilly died 40 years ago”. Yes, he deserves a beating for that).

Describing this album would be a litany of superlatives, so I shall sum it up simply and briefly. These are things that stand out on this album: songs, lyrics, vocals, instrumentation, production, overall feeling. In addition and among others, here are some more things I like about this album: variety, consistency, oddity, presentation, durability. Finally, a few standout tracks: Jipsy Valentine, Iron Lung Oompah, The Ballad Of Speedy Atkins. Negative aspects? None I can think off at the moment. Bottom Road might be the only weaker track on the album, but only in comparison to the other songs on the album.

A summary? I love it. I really do. Brilliant. I want more.
