I have never really cared about Power Metal, but there is one PM song that actually means a lot to me: Sonata Arctica's The Cage. I listened to it constantly when I was having a depressing period. I had a certain playlist of cheering songs that would make me feel better, and although this might sound stupid, that song probably saved me. Another good PM song is Black Diamond by Stratovarius.

When it comes to Speed Metal, there is one album that stands above all the others: Kreator's first album, Endless Pain. It's full of glorious riffs, leather and steel. And none of the members were over 18 years old when they recorded it!

Endless Pain is pure parhautta from "Endless" to "Dying". It's one of the most inspiring albums for me.

But power metal. Well, sure there's good power metal songs but I've never been much of a fan. If you asked me the best I'd definately mention some Helloween stuff as well as some early Blind Guardian (which, though, is more like speed metal if we go far enough in time).

The early albums of Stratovarius aren't that bad at times, actually.

Joo, Sonata Arctica´s good band, but I don´t like it at all...only few songs
More I like Helloween - but only with Andi Deris though people say it´s more commercial.Kreator´s 1st album is great, but the last I don´t like...
I like power and speed metal very much, it has a special atmosphere to me (surely much more better then Crazy frog ) I can´t wait for summer - I´ll see Helloween, Edguy, Kreator, Masterplan, ...at czech rock festival

Pantera used to be referred to as a power metal band. Now that term seems to be used in connection to bands like Sonata Arctica, who sound nothing like Pantera. Well, the vocals on Cowboys from Hell were a bit more similar than anything on Pantera's later releases.

Anyways, Speed Metal is a very familiar genre. Slayer can be considered as a Speed Metal act and that's where my love of the genre starts with. Kreator is another great band. I think Coroner can be put in the same category - there's another awesome band.

Funny how they changed... They were actually "hair" band almost, and then they went on to be all brutal. Gotta love 'em though. Hair or no hair.
