A Taste of Victory was born out of personal experiences of struggle and self-reliance that led to failure and isolation. In writing this song, I reflected on the times I tried to face life on my own, only to find myself lost and overwhelmed—“stumbling many times” and “lost in the valley where the waters run deep.” The imagery of snakes and deep waters represents the dangers and challenges that can harden the heart when we stray from God.
The turning point in the song—and in life—is acknowledging that true victory and restoration come only through Jesus. The pre-chorus and chorus express a surrender to God, a lifting of praise, and a recognition that all strength, hope, and victory come from Him. By the second verse, the song celebrates the fruits of that surrender: tasting victory, knowing God’s love in every step of one’s history, and bowing fully in gratitude and worship.
Ultimately, this song is a declaration of faith, a personal testimony, and an invitation for listeners to experience the transformative power of trusting God—turning their struggles into triumph and tasting the victory only He can provide.
