My favourite Swedish oddballs are back. And what a subtle statement their new demo makes! Not only the title, but the rather amusing cover, featuring a rather stereotypical Gasmask-goat-demon-type figure, but instead of a pentagram, there is a hexagram, a Star of David.
Musically, “Pissingonanazi.com” is much more experimental than the band’s previous demo, “Superunderground Vehicle”, which was without doubt unusually ‘normal’ for Overlord Industries. The most notable oddity is the addition of a trombone to the weapons arsenal; a rather odd choice (but what can you expect from an odd band?), and equally odd is that it fits in well with the music. Actually, there could be a lot more of the trombone, because it really adds a lot to the music and makes the already twisted music much more weird and twisted.

Stylewise, “Pissingonanazi.com” is also a lot less conventional than “Superunderground Vehicle”. The basic foundation for the music is, at least to some extent, similar to that of the previous demo, e.g. Death Metal reeking of industrial pollution, with slimy Thrash-injections, but as with the two first demos, Overlord Industries take it over the top with a lot of strange sections and weird passages. But, as opposed to the two first demos, on “Pissingonanazi.com”, the experimentalism, eccentricism and general oddity do not come at the expense of coherence. For such an odd recording, “Pissingonanazi.com” is quite coherent and, dare I say it, ‘logically’ progressing. In an Overlord Industries-kind of way, of course. I presume “Superunderground Vehicle”, with it’s considerably more conventional style and songs, provided a form of foundation to build upon.

It’s hard to say whether I like this or “Superunderground Vehicle” more. At first, it was obvious to me that “Superunderground Vehicle” was superior, but “Pissingonanazi.com” is definitely a grower. The more you listen to it, the more accustomed you get to its bizarre nature, and the more rewarding it gets. I suppose they are about equally good, with “Superunderground Vehicle” perhaps having the stronger compositions, but “Pissingonanazi.com” closing the gap with the odd charm that the more experimental nature provides. But one thing is clear, without doubt: these two demos showcase a much more mature, secure and confident Overlord Industries, an Overlord Industries with a bright future.

All we need is more trombone.
