The third demo of this odd Swedish trio sees the band evolve once more. In my review of their second demo, I wrote that I hope the band's third release would see them evolve even further, but I would never have guessed that there would be a change so great as this one.

The Death Metal-elements that were present on the two previous demos really dominate here. Whereas the two first demos were more Thrash, this is obviously Death Metal. And I am glad to say, that this new direction works well, and has definitely resulted in Overlord Industries' best demo so far. The songwriting is more balanced, but at the same time a bit more conventional. The odd sections and breaks that were to be found on the two previous demos are in a lesser role here, although they are still present. There are several riffs and sections that are very clearly something only Overlord Industries make, but on the whole this is less eccentric. But, by embracing a more traditional and conventional sound, Overlord Industries have ascended. This is their first demo which I can, with full honesty, call ”good”. The previous demos were ”ok”, but because of various reasons, nothing more. Superunderground Vehicle is good. The hard work is starting to bear fruit.

So, even though the songs are a little less original than on previous demos, this is not your average Death Metal-band. It's a mix of the very distinct Overlord Industries-sound/style and Death Metal, with the typically Overlord Industries-esque riffing mentioned above, some very rocking sections, and a Death Metallic sound and way of presenting it all. The result is very balanced and consistent, which was definitely one of the weaknesses of the previous demos; there was even too much variation on them. However, Superunderground Vehicle is a big step forward even here. The songs are distinctly different, but there is a common atmosphere throughout it all.

To sum it all up: I have always found Overlord Industries to be an interesting project, and I've always been of the opinion, that they show promise. The two previous demos just fell a bit short. Superunderground Vehicle, whilst still having lots of room for improvement, is seriously starting to truly show the promise in Overlord Industries. Let's hope the next release will improve on what the band has crafted in Superunderground Vehicle. Oh yeah, and did you know that handclaps can sound good in Death Metal?
