Psychedelia, progressive rock, early metal and other influences mixed up in a unique way. This is Soma Kick!
History:
Soma Kick was founded on the ruins of the heavy metal band Northworld. Some time had passed since Northworld had ceased to exist and the members had been working on various musical projects since, some more and some less intensely. At the same time the musical ambitions and tastes of the members had changed at least to some degree and it seemed appropriate to start working together again. This was somewhere during the winter of 2008-2009. Roni had some song ideas and even whole songs ready, so the still unnamed group took up the challenge of rocking out in a more "traditional" way, at least compared to the thrash-influenced Heavy Metal played by the former incarnation of the quintet. The group seemed to find traces of the old chemistry, and the concept started to materialize, faintly but surely. In the summer -09 the group agreed on the name Soma Kick, which Konsta came up with while reading A. Huxley's Brave New World. So there came the idea of a demo-recording. There were some gaps in the practicing of the material, but slowly the group's togetherness and song material was in the point where the first recording session was booked at the SibA around christmas 2009, and the sound technician duties were handed to Matti Strahlendorff while Jukka took care of home-recording his key parts. The recordings were done in a few different sessions, harnessing the "live" and "retro"-feeling, at least to a certain point. The first recording by the group, "Yellowstone Groove"-promo cdr came out in the end of march 2010, and from there on the future has not revealed itself to us yet.
