The words spat through a sullen grin
Laid to rest all hope within
And in its place delivered fright and dismay
In separated anxiety
Were whispered pleas of piety
Beseeching higher forces for their aid
As the grains flowed down the lucid pass
A hint of bane slipped through the glass
And set in motion the worm of cruel attrition
Deceived by gleams of ocean ice
The hint grew into surging vice
A strange and fearful state of confusion
Where is the bastion that held us safe?
Where are the gates that once stood strong?
The walls have crumbled to dust and sand
Brought down by the lithest hand
Dread and fear are washed away
By blood spilt on the final day
